Chart Analysis

The technical analysis of the Walmart stock price chart on daily timeframe shows #S-WMT,Daily is retreating toward the 200-day moving average MA(200) after hitting all-time high two weeks ago. We believe the bearish momentum will continue after the price breaches below the lower Donchian bound at 58.84. This level can be used as an entry point for placing a pending order to sell. The stop loss can be placed above 60.99. After placing the order, the stop loss is to be moved every day to the next fractal high, following Parabolic indicator signals. Thus, we are changing the expected profit/loss ratio to the breakeven point. If the price meets the stop loss level (60.99) without reaching the order (58.84), we recommend cancelling the order: the market has undergone internal changes which were not taken into account.

Walmart stock price peaked after a stock split first time in over 20 years. Will the Walmart stock price continue retreating?

Retail giant Walmart executed a 3-for-1 stock split with shares trading on a post-split basis as of February 26. Stock price was trending up before the split and the upside movement resumed after it. The split was motivated in part by a desire to ensure shares remained affordable for employees. Walmart reported revenues of $173.39 billion in the last reported quarter. That constituted a year-over-year change of +5.7%. The earnings per share (EPS) rose to $0.60 for the same period after $0.57 a year ago. Wall Street analysts estimate Walmart will record $158.89 billion sales for the current quarter, indicating a year-over-year change of +4.3%. For the whole year, the consensus sales estimates are $671.5 billion and $698.28 billion for the current and next fiscal years, indicating 3.6% and 4% growths, respectively. Shares of world's largest retailer have gained 1.2% over the past month. Expectations of future revenue growth are bullish for a company stock. However, the current setup is bearish for Walmart stock price.
