HKEX (full name is Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing) – is a large financial holding founded in 2000 through the merger of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Hong Kong Future Exchange and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company (financial services). Officially Hong Kong Stock Exchange was founded in 1891, but in fact it was operating since 1861. Hong Kong Futures Exchange was founded in 1976, but in 1987 it went bankrupt. In 2010 the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was the sixth largest in the world in terms of market capitalization of the companies, presented there, conceding to only Tokyo and Shanghai Stock Exchanges in Asia. The government of Hong Kong is one of the largest shareholders of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing and controls the board of directors of the company in 6 places out of 13. The company is headquartered in Hong Kong.
